One of the Best Radio/TV presenters and voice over artists to come out of Zambia, Chilu lemba, a friend and collegue in the industry will be in Lusaka in september to lead the second annual radio sammit, bringing with him South Africas TV and Radio royalty namely Phat Joe to name just a few.

here is what he said on his face book.

"Radio is magical. A window into a wider world opens up when we listen to a particular station. Nuances associated with cultures and communities are plentiful in each broadcast… the expressions, the lingo, the raw emotion…

I’ve always been excited by the medium of radio and it is with great pleasure that I find myself a part of The Lusaka Radio Summit, now in it’s second edition. It’s one of the most important media events on the Zambian calendar. The line of speakers is amazing and, it is a huge honor to have this caliber of speakers committing their time to be a part of the Summit. Alliance Francaise Lusaka have agreed to host the event and a number of individuals have taken time out to be part of getting the Summit off the ground. I am sincerely grateful to everyone involved thus far.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be getting word about the Summit out through various media outlets.

Should you need further details about registration or corporate sponsorship, please send us an email. You will find the contact details on the About Us page.

Looking forward to seeing you in Lusaka.

South Africas house and radio Guru DJ fresh Rocks Room 101 Sat 28th

Saturday 28th Agust will be a very special day for me because not only do i return home to my familly, friends, fans, radio and loads of gigs after a 4 year absense, but i will for the first time meet and see my heroe DJ Fresh play a house music set at room 101. for those reading this and have no idea who fresh is read further

DJ Fresh has 13 house albums under his belt and has shared the DJ booth with a number of international artists, including "Little Louie" Vega, Frankie Knuckles, Armad Van Helden and Dominic Spreadlove and played in Southport in 2000 and at the legendary Pacha in Ibiza in 2002.

He was also part of a team of DJ's who performed at the Miami Winter Music Conference.

Apart from launching his company Big Dawg Productions, Fresh has established the DJ Fresh Annual Shcolarship programme, which awards tertiary scholarships to deserving students who cannot afford it.

Another of his projects is the "Rollback Xenophobia" campaign, and he has raised money for organisations like POWA and the Cancer Association with unique initiatives like "kissathons".

Currently a guest at any club venue across the country worth its salt, as well as a regular at nightclubbing institutions like Randburg's Calabash.

In 2000, Fresh invited YFM to adopt 100 matriculants from Gauteng's star schools who every Sunday attended extra classes until exams were over. He also arranged career talks for the learners with people from different sectors.

In 2001 another scholarship programme was established. The DJ Fresh Annual Scholarship is an extension of an existing scholarship, but this time in partnership with Rosebank College, which awarded 5 scholarships, Monash University (10 scholarships) and Boston Media House (5 Scholarships).

During the same year 17 scholarships were awarded to deserving learners who had excelled in Matric but couldn't afford to pay for further studies.

The aim of the DJ Fresh Scholarship initiative is to give matriculants from the so-called "formerly disadvantaged communities" an opportunity to explore all facets of life, while at the same time helping break the stereotype that lawyers and doctors are the epitome of success.

Plans are underway to turn the scholarship into a full and permanent education fund and eventually offer post graduate scholarships.

DJ Fresh appeared on the thid one-off TV special of quiz show Test The Nation, entitled National Parenting Test, as a celebrity guest.

he currently hosts "The Fresh Drive" on the SABCs 5FM weekdays from 3 to 7pm. follow him on twitter @DJFreshSA

"Underwhelming," Says Goldman Sachs

RIM's new BlackBerry Torch -- its attempt at a response to Apple's iPhone and Google's Android -- is off to an "underwhelming" start, according to Goldman Sachs, via StreetInsider.

The Torch, which includes a touchscreen as well as a slide-out keyboard, went on sale last week at AT&T stores, and will be advertised heavily by AT&T.

But Goldman notes "that nearly all of the stores they called did not sell out of the device," StreetInsider notes, versus strong demand for high-end Android devices like the Motorola Droid X at Verizon Wireless and the HTC EVO at Sprint.

And, as expected, most of the purchases for the Torch were upgrades from existing BlackBerry subscribers, versus RIM reaching new subs for the device.

The problem for RIM is that it's quickly losing ground in the high end of the smartphone market, as Apple and Google have rocketed past the BlackBerry in design and sophistication. (And Android has even recently shot past in market share.)

The Torch was RIM's attempt to appeal to the iPhone/Android set, via the touchscreen, but it's hurt by slow hardware, a weak display, and crappy software. So really, it still only appeals to the BlackBerry set, which either needs a RIM device for work, or thinks they can't use a device without a plastic keyboard.

As we said, sorry, but the BlackBerry Torch won't save RIM.

Brick & Lace, local artistes to share stage

By Joseph Mwenda(The post Zambia)

SPLENDID, would be an overstatement for the kind of performance that Jamaican R&B reggae music fusion, Brick and Lace put up tonight at the Barclays Sports complex in Lusaka, but to say that they disappointed would mean something else too.

However, to define a show that started at around 15:00 hours earlier in the day with a combinations of performing artistes including locals, ‘average’ would be the right word.

Local artistes dominated the day with various performances among them, an amazing show from TR a.k.a Kapuka who partnered with his newly found music friend TEF.

South African Hip-hop Kwaito duet, Jozi also mesmerized the handful audience of about 500 fans who awaited the introduction of Brick and Lace onto the scene.

Jozi in fact showed why they are big names even in their own homeland when they performed hits from their long catalog of albums.

Eventually after 20:00 hours, the long awaited Jamaicans showed up on stage clad in skimpy shorts and high heels, surrounded by their ‘traditional’ tight security much to the delight of fans who welcomed the singers with cheering.

The Jamaicans, without hesitation, started churning tracks one after another as their crew DJ spiced up the occasion with some background music to fill in the gaps.

It was only after the sixth song however, that the ever gorgeous Jamaican stars shocked the audience by skipping their own music list and jumping to multi Grammy award winning Alicia Keys’ “No One” song.

As if that was not enough, the singers then went on to unleash music originally by Sean Paul, not to mention Rihanna’s.

At around 22:00, the singers did their ‘best for last’’ song “Your love is wicked” and waved goodbye to a stunned audience.

To the few fans who attended the Brick and Lace show, they probably got the best they could from the Jamaicans but looking at the turn out, a headache is inevitable to the organizers, as the cash-in reality slowly kicks in.

Kanye West Promises To Release A New Song Every Week

i was on twitter this morning when i read a tweet by super star Rapper and producer kanye west announcing that he will be realising a song every friday untill christmass in what he calls good fridays.

"I know ya'll need the music so am dropping 1 new song every friday untill Xmas.it may be my song it maybe a new jay song etc"

well, to me this reflects the current state of music in the digital era where the artists no longer have to wait for the record label to devise promotional campaigns and to release singles. the route to market has been made simple by the internet where by the artist simply records a song and passes it on directly to the fans and in return they get free promotion which pays off through tours. times have changed.
